Clinical Psychologist in Denmark: What My Authorization Means for You

I’m pleased to share a professional update: I am now an authorized psychologist in Denmark, with permission to use the additional title psykolog med praksisuddannelse (klinisk psykolog).

If you’re considering therapy, you may wonder what these terms mean, how to check a psychologist’s registration, and whether insurance can help with the cost. Here is a brief explanation.

What does Danish authorization mean?

Danish authorization is professional registration within Denmark’s healthcare system. For psychologists, it is based on a qualifying psychology degree or a recognized equivalent qualification. Authorized psychologists are subject to supervision by the Danish Patient Safety Authority, Styrelsen for Patientsikkerhed.

Psychologists entered this healthcare authorization system on 1 January 2026. You can read about the framework on the Danish Patient Safety Authority’s website.

For someone seeking therapy, this provides a way to check a professional’s registration and understand the framework of accountability around their work.

What does “klinisk psykolog” mean?

The full Danish title is psykolog med praksisuddannelse (klinisk psykolog). This is an additional protected title, which requires authorization as a psychologist and approved practical training, or recognition of equivalent training.

It therefore reflects a further training requirement beyond the qualification needed for basic authorization. The official explanation of the clinical psychologist title sets out these requirements.

You can check my registration through the Danish Authorization Register, using my authorization ID: 0HC11.

What can you expect from therapy with me?

I offer therapy in English and Spanish, online and in Aarhus. My approach combines cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness.

Together, we explore patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, and consider practical ways to respond to the difficulties you are facing. The work is collaborative, with room to discuss your goals, ask questions, and review what is helpful.

Professional credentials are one part of choosing a psychologist. It also matters whether you feel understood and comfortable talking with the person you meet. You are welcome to ask about my approach before deciding whether to begin.

Can insurance help with the cost?

Financial support may be available for individual therapy, depending on your insurance or membership arrangements.

Prescriba: I collaborate with Prescriba. If you have access to psychological support through them, contact Prescriba to ask whether sessions with me can be arranged.

Sygeforsikringen “danmark”: I can report eligible sessions electronically. Reimbursement depends on the scheme’s conditions, including your membership, age, and the treatment involved. You can check the current conditions for psychological treatment.

Other health insurance: Ask your insurer whether your policy covers sessions with me and whether you need approval before booking. It is also helpful to confirm how much is covered and whether you need to pay first and request reimbursement.

My authorization and title do not, by themselves, confirm that a particular policy will cover your sessions. You can find the options I currently work with in the Insurance & reimbursement section of my Services page.

Taking the next step

If you’re considering therapy and would like to ask about working together, you can book a free 15-minute consultation. It is an opportunity to share what you are looking for and ask any initial questions.
